Case Studies - TS Royalist

We were contacted by The Marine Society & Sea Cadets to complete some works on-board the square rigger sailing ship TS Royalist.

We were asked to line a black water tank located deep in the bilges of the ship and also apply a protective anti-slip coating to the coach roof on the deck of the ship, as part of an extensive refit of the whole vessel.

The tank had previously contained grey water, but to comply with current Maritime Regulations they were required to store all black water on-board.

Access to the tanks was via two narrow manholes at the top of the tank, either side of a bulkhead. Each one of the access points was only 7” x 28”. Within the tank there are internal baffles that split the tank into 4 sections, with small openings between the tank sections.

Both areas were abrasive grit blasted, cleaned by vacuum and then received multiple coats of a chemically resistant resin. Each coat of resin was applied in different colours to ensure complete coverage with each coat.
